Alexa & Robert
Alexa and Robert are the first, and likely the last couple I’ll photograph that I can say “I was there the day they met”. I used to work with Alexa at a brewery and on one fateful day, Robert strolled in and was sat in my section. Alexa was immediately smitten with this guy and, much to everyone's entertainment/slight annoyance (love you Alexa), couldn't stop talking about it . As I continued to serve him beers, I noticed that there was some definite mutual feelings between them. Someone eventually spilled the beans to Robert about her attraction to him, they went on a date, and the rest was history. An elopement, a baby, and a tiny house in Portland later, and here I was photographing the love celebration of their dreams.
Since I’ve known Alexa, one thing I’ve noticed is that she has big and creative dreams. This event was no exception. During our consultation she told me she’d be having Tournant do the catering at Vibrant Valley Farm on Sauvie Island. I wasn’t prepared for just how awesome of an experience it would be to witness the chefs preparing and cooking with vegetables straight from the farm, with minimal supplies. They are truly culinary artists, and it was clear how much they cared about connecting with the people and the land.
The rest of the evening was just as magical. Robert and Alexa said their vows in front of an arbor that Robert made, and everyone ate their meals at tables and benches that he also crafted himself. Their friends and family gave heartfelt, tear-filled speeches, there were donuts, pies, and cookies for desert, and everyone closed out the evening by dancing in the grass under a clear, blue summer sky.
I am so grateful I got to attend and photograph such a special event with so much love and intention put into every detail. Thank you Alexa and Robert for the opportunity. Cheers to you two and your ridiculously adorable little girl. May your marriage be continually filled with big dreams and lots of love.
