From the very beginning, I knew I would love documenting this day. Katie and Jake had their hearts set on a clear intention: Have a small, simple wedding filled to the brim with quality family time.

In her initial email, Katie wrote: “Our vision is to have photographs that document the day, rather than super staged and posed photographs.” Are you kidding? Music to my ears! My approach to documenting couples is first and foremost about living in the moment. I will guide and direct when it’s needed. But for the most part, being present with those who matter most is not only how you get the best photographs, but it’s also how you have the best experience. I loved that Katie and Jake were all about this!

At one point during their couples portraits, I had to tell them how fun they were to photograph because they were so immersed in it all.

It was true. They were overflowing with pure love and emotion the entire day, and so clearly savoring it all.

And there’s honestly nothing I want more for my couples than that right there.

Dance your heart out.
Hug everyone.
Let every tear fall.
Have your cake and eat it too.

There’s not many days in our lives that we go harder on celebrating than a wedding day. All the pretty details, the thoughtful decisions, the location, they are a reflection of you and they do matter.

But what matters the very most?
Your energy.
Your presence.
How wholeheartedly you showed up for it all.

That’s where the magic is.
